PBDD4T-2F polymer semiconductor has been developed for OPV applications (including both fullerene and non-fullerene polymer solar cells) and has an efficiency of over 9% [1]. It has been built into tandem solar cells, and PCE reaching 13% was reported with the following structure: PBDD4T-2F:PC71BM (front cell) & PBDTTT-E-T:IEICO (rear cell) [2].
When compared to PBDD4T, PBDD4T-2F has a stronger tendency to aggregate in solution. It also has a stronger π–π stacking compact in solid thin-film, and shows a deeper HOMO energy level of -5.39 eV.
PBDD4T-2F finds applications in polymer solar cells with both fullerene and non-fullerene acceptors (such as ITIC and P(NDI2OD-T2) respectively) with highly efficient device performances.
